Well I’m discovering that my arduino is still a great deal of fun but also the fact that the code (it uses a version of C) is a little tricky for a beginner like me. Thanks to Google Books I’m slowly grasping the basics. I was looking for a little project to get my teeth into and decided on making a Morse code translator.

It took a couple of evenings and 200 lines of code but its there. Its messy and I’m certain it could be rewritten with half the lines but it works.

Although on a small breadboard, this could so easily be scaled up to something on par with the messenging towers one saw in Going Postal. I’m adding it to ‘my end of the world’ kit when the internet and all other forms of communication are brought down. It would be nice to have the workshop transmitting Morse from the roof.
